Operations Tip

Simulation Operations can become complex with a lot of moving parts. Having staff meetings every week may not be an option based on operational tempo. This poses an interesting challenge in keeping your staff and instructors up to date with information that can be rapidly changing …even by the hour. Many of use use Goodle Docs, Dropbox, and Box for sharing documents and data, but even this can get confusing the more information changes and the more diverse your teams can get.

What is Slack?

Slack allows for streamlined communications, sort of “old school” AOL instant messenger or MSN Messenger. This platform can be used for text, call, video, sharing screens, and obviously searching through old messeges all from the same place. This can be used from an application downloaded to the computer or via the cloud. It is updated in real time via the cloud so you can keep up to date on mobile and tablet if you are on the go.

Getting Started…

  1. Create an account and join a work space (or add a workplace)
  2. Create channels that describe your project or subject
  3. Invite staff and faculty as you see fit
  4. Don’t forget to set the notifications (in settings) so you get notified when there is a change to the channel(s)

As with any new application that is introduced to the operations of the center, it will take some time to get used to how the platform works and how your team can become efficient.

enjoy!
